Home – The Great Barn Giveaway

Congratulations to the Winner!
COVENTRY REGIONAL FARMERS MARKET

It was a great contest and the voting was close at times.  But by the end of voting, there was a clear winner in Coventry Regional Farmers Market.  We here at W.H. Silverstein were so impressed and touched by all the wonderful and supportive comments posted here at the Great Barn Giveaway site.  All three farmers’ market finalists have great followings and lot of community backing, and each of their stories were inspirational.

Stay tuned to this site for information on the building of the barn.  We plan to keep everyone updated with the progress of building the barn in Coventry, from ground breaking to opening day and any volunteer opportunities along the way to help.

I voted for Hemlock, MI. It is a wonderful small town. The people take great pride in their community and have been hard hit with the recession. Their Farmers Market is always a wonderful place to spend a morning and at the same time supporting the local vendors. The barn would a great asset to the community not just as a market place but a gathering place.

I vote CHATHAM! I love catching up with friends and neighbors on Saturday mornings. I get excited thinking about what I’m going to make for dinner with my fresh purchases. My daughter and I walk there, get a croissant for breakfast, maybe buy some cut flowers along with our food. A little bit of Paris right here in Jersey!

I vote for the Coventry Farmer’s Market! Not only is the market a great place to meet people and enjoy local farm products, its location is a significant historical landmark. The homestead is the birthplace of Nathan Hale, a revolutionary war hero and a true American patriot. Hale, a spy for the Americans, was caught and hanged by the British. He is is famous for his last words, “My only regret is that I have but one life to lose for my country!”. The house which stands on the property, now a museum containing original Hale furnishings and memorabilia, was built in 1776 by Hale’s father. There is no doubt that the Hales would have loved the market. Where else can you buy organic veggies and enjoy them in the backyard of a historic American home?
